Canva vs CapCut vs an AI video maker: which one for your business videos
Canva, CapCut and an AI motion design tool all make short videos, but they start from different places: Canva from a design template, CapCut from a timeline with what you filmed, and the AI motion design tool from a sentence describing the video. The right pick depends on whether you film your own videos and how much time you have each week to put them together.
This guide compares the three for a small business posting Reels, TikToks and Status updates. Our example of an AI motion design tool is Fabapp Motion, from Fabapp, so we're explicit about what it doesn't do. For Canva and CapCut, we only wrote what their official pages or the press confirmed on November 5, 2026.
The comparison
| Canva | CapCut | Fabapp Motion | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starts from | a template or a blank canvas, in the design editor | the timeline, with your footage | a sentence describing the video |
| Your brand | Brand Kit with logos, fonts and colors, from Pro up | not reviewed in this guide | read from your site: name, logo, colors and fonts |
| AI-generated scenes | clips with Google's Veo 3 on paid plans | video generator from text or images | images and video backgrounds generated for the piece |
| Auto captions of speech | not reviewed in this guide | yes, with translation and styling | no: it doesn't work with recorded speech |
| Music | music in the video editor | not reviewed in this guide | a soundtrack generated for the piece, cut to the beat, or your own music |
| Editing | by hand, in the editor | by hand, on the timeline | in a chat or in the text fields |
| Product price in the video | you type it | you type it | comes from your records or site, checked by you |
| Beyond video | general design: posts, posters, presentations | video and photo editing | brand videos and carousels |
"Not reviewed" means we didn't confirm the feature in an official source, not that it doesn't exist.
When Canva is the best choice
Canva is a general design tool. It makes sense when:
- the video looks like an animated post, built from a template;
- the same person also makes posters, menus, presentations and static posts;
- the team needs a shared brand library, with the Brand Kit holding logos, fonts and colors.
For generated scenes, Canva announced clip generation with Google's Veo 3 for paid subscribers. The press described 8-second clips with sound. The clip opens in the video editor, where you build the rest.
When CapCut is the best choice
CapCut is a video editor. It makes sense when:
- you film your videos, with you or your team talking;
- you need auto captions of speech, which CapCut generates, translates and lets you style;
- you want cut-by-cut control on the timeline.
It also has a video generator from text or images and ready templates, but the heart of the tool is editing.
When an AI motion design tool is the best choice
It makes sense when you don't film, have no editor on the team, and need the whole piece ready. In Fabapp Motion:
- you paste your site's address and the brand comes in about 20 seconds;
- you describe the video in one sentence, pick one of ten styles or paste a link to a reference video;
- the first version is ready in about a minute with the default model, with animated text, images, video backgrounds, a soundtrack and sound effects;
- you adjust it in the chat and export as MP4, in 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9, or as a carousel.
What it doesn't do: it doesn't edit filmed footage cut by cut, doesn't caption your speech, doesn't create a presenter or a voiceover, and isn't a general design tool. For those, the other two are a better fit.
Pricing works differently too. Each piece has a fixed price in credits, shown on the button before you generate, and the credits come back if a generation fails. Motion is part of Fabapp's paid plans, starting with Starter at US$ 19 a month. See plans and pricing and what Fabapp Motion makes.

A 30-second way to decide
- Do you appear in your videos? CapCut.
- Do you make a lot of graphics besides video? Canva.
- You don't film and want this week's offer ready from one sentence? An AI motion design tool.
Many people end up using two. What matters is not spending two hours building a 15-second video by hand that could have come from one sentence, and not asking an AI to edit a video you filmed.
If you're choosing among AI tools specifically, Claude Motion alternatives compares the AI video options. If you look after a brand across several products, best design system tools shows how to keep colors and fonts consistent everywhere, and how to make Instagram videos with AI takes you from the request to the MP4.
Whichever tool you pick, the video is only one part of getting the word out. The guide on how to promote an app covers the channels that bring the first customers and how to measure each one.
The short version
- Canva starts from design, CapCut from footage, AI motion design from a sentence;
- you film and talk in your videos: CapCut; you make lots of graphics: Canva;
- you don't film and want the piece ready with your brand: an AI motion design tool;
- Fabapp Motion doesn't caption speech, doesn't create a presenter or voiceover, and doesn't replace a general design tool.
