How to make Instagram videos with AI

Making Instagram videos with AI means describing the video in text and letting a tool build the scenes, typography, music and cuts, ready to post in 9:16 or 4:5. The result depends on three things you control: the brand the tool works from, how clear your request is, and the data that goes into the video, such as a product's name and price.

This guide walks through the whole path, from the request to the MP4 file, and where each kind of tool helps or gets in the way. The examples use Fabapp Motion, Fabapp's video tool, but the steps apply to any other.

What kinds of AI tools make Instagram videos?

There are three families today, and they solve different problems:

Type What it does Good for Watch out for
Scene generator creates a video clip from text or an image one striking shot, an effect, a background doesn't know your brand, won't write the right price
AI-assisted editor timeline with auto captions, cuts and templates people who already film and want to edit faster you still assemble everything by hand
AI motion design builds the whole piece (animated text, scenes, soundtrack, cuts) from a request ads, promotions, launches, carousels quality depends on the request and a well set-up brand

For a small business that has to post every week with no editor on the team, the third family is the one that delivers a whole video. The other two usually become steps in a process you still run yourself.

Step 1: set up your brand once

The most common mistake is a good-looking video that doesn't look like you. Before the first video, give the tool:

  • your logo, ideally on a transparent background;
  • your colors, the main one and an accent;
  • the fonts for headings and body text;
  • a tone, such as cheerful, elegant or sober.

In Fabapp Motion, you paste your site's address and it reads your name, logo, colors and fonts in about 20 seconds. If the site lists products with prices, those come along too, flagged for you to check. You can also build the brand from an app you already have on Fabapp, from your Instagram, or by hand.

Step 2: write the request as one sentence with a goal

A good request says what you're promoting, who it's for and what the viewer should do at the end. Compare:

  • weak: "video for my shop";
  • good: "Saturday deal on cupcakes, 3 for $12, only at the Main Street store. End with 'order on WhatsApp'."

The second gives the AI a hook, an offer and a call to action. If you're not sure how to structure the message, the Reels script template has a four-block structure.

Step 3: pick a style or show a reference video

Style is what separates a generic video from one with character. Two ways to choose:

  • a ready-made style: Fabapp Motion has ten named styles, such as Swiss kinetic, Dark keynote, Risograph, VHS retro and Vertical captions (bold captions for sound-off viewing);
  • a video you saw and liked: paste a link to a Reel, a TikTok or a YouTube video, or upload the file. Your piece follows its palette, typography and rhythm, with images, scenes and music made for yours.

Step 4: choose the format before you generate

Where you'll post Format Size
Reels, Stories, WhatsApp Status, TikTok 9:16 1080 × 1920
Instagram feed 4:5 1080 × 1350
Square feed, grid ads 1:1 1080 × 1080
Landscape YouTube 16:9 1920 × 1080

The guide to social media video sizes explains the safe margins for each. In Fabapp Motion, a video can run up to 120 seconds. Past 60 seconds only 9:16 and 16:9 are available, because 4:5 and 1:1 are short-post formats.

Step 5: generate, review and adjust in a chat

The first version is rarely the final one. What usually needs work:

  1. the text of the first scene, which is the hook and decides whether people keep watching;
  2. reading time, because text that disappears before anyone reads it is wasted;
  3. the closing call to action, which should ask for one thing only.

In Fabapp Motion, each chat request changes only what you asked for and keeps the rest. Every version is saved, so you can go back to an earlier one.

Step 6: music and sound effects

The video has to work with the sound on and off, because you don't know how each person will watch: the text carries the message and the sound sets the pace.

In Fabapp Motion, the soundtrack is generated for the piece and the cuts follow the beat. Sound effects (a whoosh, an impact, a click, the cash register on the price) mark the moments when something lands on screen, and you can turn them off. If you prefer, upload your own music as MP3, M4A, WAV or AAC, as long as you have the right to use it.

Step 7: export as MP4

The final file for Instagram is an H.264 MP4, one of the codecs Meta lists in its Reels specifications. In Fabapp Motion, the export comes out in 1080p and runs in the background, and each extra format (the same video in 4:5, for example) is one more export at the same fixed price. A carousel comes out as images, one file per slide.

How much does it cost to make videos with AI?

It depends on how each tool charges: a subscription with an export cap, credits per generation, or seconds of generated video. In Fabapp Motion, each piece has a fixed price in credits, shown on the button before you generate, which varies with the model you pick and the length. If a generation fails, the credits come back. Motion is part of Fabapp's paid plans, starting with Starter at US$ 19 a month. The full table is on plans and pricing.

What about other tools?

If you already film your videos and want to edit faster, a timeline editor is the better fit. If you need a person talking on screen, look for a tool with avatars, which Fabapp Motion doesn't do. The full comparison is in Canva vs CapCut vs an AI video maker, and Fabapp Motion side by side with Claude Motion shows how it differs from Anthropic's tool.

For the step by step inside the Studio, see the guide Your first video in Motion.

After you post, the work continues: how to promote an app shows how to measure where people came from, and app store screenshots use the same hook-first logic on the first screen.

The short version

  • set up your brand once: logo, colors, fonts and tone;
  • ask in one sentence with an offer and a call to action;
  • choose the format before generating: 9:16 for Reels, 4:5 for the feed;
  • tune the hook, the reading time and the closing call to action;
  • use only music you have the rights to, and export as MP4.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make Instagram videos with AI if I can't edit video?
Yes. You describe the video in one sentence, the tool builds the scenes, text, music and pacing, and you ask for changes in a chat. Editing skills help with the final polish, but you don't need them to start.
What format should I use for Reels?
Vertical 9:16, at 1080 by 1920 pixels. Meta recommends 9:16 for Reels to avoid cropping or blank space. For a feed post, 4:5 takes up more of the screen than a square.
Will the AI get my product's price right?
Only if the price comes from your data, not from the model. In Fabapp Motion, names and prices come from your records or your site, and a price read from a site is flagged for you to check before it goes into a video.
Can I use a popular song in the video?
Not without a license. Instagram and TikTok mute or take down videos with copyrighted music. Use a track generated for the video, a royalty-free library, or music you bought with a commercial license.
How long until the first video is ready?
In Fabapp Motion, with the default model, the first version is ready in about a minute. Video backgrounds and the soundtrack can take a little longer and show up when they finish.
